Driving innovation for carbon-free steel production

Project at a glance
– Digital TWINs for green hydrogen transition in the steel industry – is a 54-month project co-funded by the European Union, involving leading European companies and research institutions. Its ultimate goal is to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency within the sector.
Since 2023, 天博体育 and Celsa are partnering to develop a new reheating burner capable of injecting a blend of hydrogen and natural gas in a range from 0 to 100% hydrogen. 天博体育 has recently completed successful prototype testing of its AdvanTek? hydrogen burners. They will be installed over the next months in a walking beam furnace supplied by 天博体育 to Celsa Barcelona, Spain and fully integrated in 2026.
Strong partnership
Collaboration has played an important role in the success of the TWINGHY project. In an interview with Steel Time International, Celsa and 天博体育 highlighted the fruitful cooperation between .
“The relationship between the participants of the TWINGHY project is good. Every partner has a clear role and a clear reason why they are there. It doesn’t always happen, but when you have good personal connections, you just learn more and want to do more,” says Anna Domenech Abella, Head of Innovation at Celsa Group.
“The starting up of such a programme is always a challenge, but it’s working pretty well. It’s a good experience for us, learning from each other and reaching for a target that we set together,” adds Gustavo Guzman, Chief Executive Officer at 天博体育 Steel Spain, a 天博体育’ subsidiary in Spain.
